Dear Guests Welcome to Zindan Han. Zindan Han has taken its name from the Historical Dungeon which was built in Byzantine Era. Dungeon is the prison where he people who hadn’t pay their debts were imprisoned. Dungeon is under a bastion in Fjord Coast of Istanbul Walls and this bastion and gate near it are called as ‘’Dungeon Gate’’ after Conquest. Dungeon was essentially repaired in 19th century Sultan II. Mahmud era. Dungeon is entered from single winged Iron Gate. Entry floor is covered with iron grates and lightened with four windows. It is 2nd floor is accessed via stone narrow stairs. In the next periods of Ottomans Women section was added to Dungeon and it was used as first women prison of the world. This historical place is restored nowadays by abiding to its original and brought in to art history world.
